summer’s almost over..

Just got home from recording. it was an amazing experience recording with j robbins. and we are really stoked on how it’s turning out. I think we really diversified on this record. it’s still dancey, maybe in rocks a little harder. we brought in cellist and violinst for a few tracks. i played some piano and organ. We just had the best recording experience.

We’ll be hanging out at home for awhile waiting to get the new cd finished. we had an awesome show at the bowery ballroom in NYC. such a cool venue i’ve always wanted to play there. anyhow it was one of my favorite shows ever for sure. We also got to see Radiohead two nights in a row in new york ( one of my favorite bands ever!). you could see the statue of liberty. but we’ll be playing a bunch of hometown shows while we’re here. ft collins on the 30th. rock the vote on the 29th. and then monolith. this has been a really sweet summer.

In The Studio 3

As you can see we still have a lot of boxes to check off, but we’re doing pretty good on time. All the big stuff is mostly taken care of minus the remaining vocal tracks, but besides that it’s mostly some guitar things and aux perc. stuff. Collectively we’ve scored millions and millions of points playing Burnout Takedown on the studio ps2 and have eaten pounds of ramen noodles. However, morale is high and Alan is powering through these vocal parts. Everything’s finally coming together and starting to sound like a record.

We’re back to work after having a day off yesterday. It mostly constisted of us lounging in our hotel room for way too long… but we did end up getting out last night to see our friends Portugal The Man who played with the RX Bandits.

Portugal The Man’s set was incredible, and the place was packed. Bill and I both ended up having way too much to drink, but I did manage to catch a few songs from the rx bandits before retiring back to the van with the spins.  

This morning Bill popped a couple of ibuprofen for his headache and went straight to work on some guitar tracks. Alan’s been working double time recording guitar tracks for a couple hours followed by vocal tracks for a couple hours more… Everything sounds amazing, and Jay has been helping out all over the place from production ideas to microphone selection… he even showed Alan a bunch of goofy stretches to do before singing.

in the studio!

It’s day six in the studio with producer/engineer Jay Robbins at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore, MD. Everything’s falling right into place… drums and bass are done for the most part, guitars are more than halfway there, and Alan has already finished a couple vocal tracks. There are tons of new pictures up for everyone to check out, and we have a few shows coming up on the way home: New York, Chicago, and Colorado Springs. Keep checking back frequently as we’ll try to at least post something new everyday.

July 21st
We just played the mile high music festival yesterday and we’re leaving to baltimore to record with j robbins today! we have never felt better. the mile high festival was alot of fun and too hot. i think i got heat stroke. no joke. and we shared a green room with rodrigo y gabrielle. It was such a cool experience they jammed for twenty minutes in the green room. it was so cool. then we watched pinback from side stage. it really was a one of kind amazing event.

We’re leaving in just a few minutes to head out to baltimore to record a new cd. i know i know, it’s about time. i’ll be doing a day by day studio blog so if feel so inclined you can follow along. we’re really really excited you guys! we have a show at the bowery in NYC too so new york friends come out and dance. much love to everyone.

west coast!

hey everyone! so we’re on tour on the west coast with local H. We’re all really stoked for this tour. It’s just a couple weeks but we absolutely love the west coast. And good news, we moved out of our parents basements and into a band house. It’s not nice but it’s perfect for writing. we decided the best way to write a new record was to just get a crappy place we can all live together and just play at anytime we feel inspired to do so. which has worked like a charm.

We spent the last two weeks hammering out new songs getting ready to go into the studio, which we’ll be doing following the mile high music festival in July. which is gonna be badass i advise everyone to go to it, tom petty, dave mathews band, rodrigo y gabrielle, just to name a few of the bands playing. it should be epic. but…. the day after we play (july 21st) we’ll be setting up plans to make a new record which is epic in itself. so yes, it’s in the works.

We had a hand full of colorado shows while we were home and we had a ton of fun thanks to everyone in colorado for coming out to our shows/parties and making it such an awesome and supportive home for us. we’re still fighting the good fight and trying to make a good name for the denver/ colorado music scene by maintaining our hard working attitude. we hope that people pick up on that, if not we’ll just keep playing.

back in denver

May 9th
We’re back at home after spending the last three weeks on the east coast. It was a crazy time. The hightlight being the week of shows we did with scary kids scaring kids. I think we finally met a band that can out party us, seriously. The best show was at the norva in norfolf virginia. The coolest venue we’ve ever played hands down. I don’t know where to begin to decribe it check it out for yourself. But sksk were the best they let us hang out and crash on their bus whenever we wanted. We can’t wait to hang out with them again. Taste the Vapors!

Bamboozle was awesome. got to see a ton of our friends. My favorite sets where by Say Anything, Phantom planet (been a huge fan for a long time finally got to see them live), and our friends from boulder 30h!3. It was a long day with a ton of walking. but alot of fun at the same time. most of the bands were not my style so to speak. but festivals are always fun and exhausting.

Then the only bummer to the trip, was our van got broken into in brooklyn they stole our GPS, mark’s video camera and i pod. and all my cool new clothes i got from triple five soul. and we had to fix a broken window. it was one of those things that, it sucked but at least they didn’t steal our gear or more stuff. You always here horror storys of bands getting there vans stolen and all there gear, so in a way we are thankful it was only a few things. it seems like life always evens itself out for me. or us. i mean we never are up but never down. we never have money or nice things but at least we can survive and tour. and kinda live off our art. i guess thats all you can ask for in life.

We have a couple shows we’re playing while we’re home. which include two house parties one in boulder , the 12th,and one in ft. collins, the 16th . house parties are our favorite! and we play a dance club in denver on the 14th. We’ll be spending the last two weeks in may writing in plans of recording a new record in august. In june we’ll be going out to the west coast with Local H. and then we’ll back home to finish writing. We can’t wait to get a new album out!
